How fast can a bicycle usually run

2022-01-20

There are many kinds of bicycles. Different bicycles and different rider qualities determine the speed of bicycles. Common bicycles in life, such as sports bicycles, belong to leisure bicycles.

It can be seen from the design that this kind of bicycle pursues the kind that is easy to ride, not tired and suitable for all ages. The riding center of gravity is back, and most people can ride straight. Therefore, most of them are difficult to exceed 20km / h, and the average speed is about 15km / h. of course, the engine (leg) has strong power and can ride above 25km / h.

The wheel diameter of the old 28 bicycle is large, the transmission ratio of the front and rear sprockets is relatively high, so the speed is also much higher.

Now the most bicycles on the road are mountain bikes and road bikes. First, take a look at the road bike:

It can be seen from the appearance that this kind of bicycle is related to speed. The contact area between narrow tires and the ground is smaller and the rolling resistance is smaller. Therefore, riding is more labor-saving and the speed is super fast. In terms of daily riding, cars with good physical fitness have an average speed of 35km / h without any pressure. The following figure shows our average speed of not getting off for 100 kilometers:

It can be seen that the average speed of riding for 100 kilometers is maintained at about 33km / h. If the mileage is shortened properly, the average speed will be higher:

It can be seen that when the mileage is shortened to about 50km, the average speed can reach 37km / h. Of course, this achievement can only be achieved through certain training and efforts. It is difficult for newcomers to do this. This result is not the highest. The average speed of professional athletes can exceed 40km / h or even higher. But it's OK for our middle-aged amateur cyclists.

Now let's take another look at mountain bikes. Mountain bikes, also known as off-road bikes, are also common bicycles. The tire is wide, the tire pattern is complex, the granular tire and pineapple tire are common, the transmission speed range is wider, and the transmission is at least 3 × 9 = above 27 speed (entry level), so mountain bikes have super off-road ability and speed.

Wide tires and complex patterns also increase the friction resistance, so the riding resistance of mountain bikes is significantly greater than that of road vehicles. The most direct performance is that the top speed is not as fast as the road, the riding consumes more physical strength, and the average speed is also lower than that of road vehicles. Let's take a look at the results of mountain bike riding:

The average speed of short-distance riding can also reach about 33km / h, but the average speed will fall down during long-distance riding. A few days ago, I challenged my performance when I didn't get off the bus for 100 kilometers:

The average speed is only 25km / h. The speed of non professional mountain bike riders for long-distance riding is about 30km / h. The mountain bike has great resistance and consumes a lot of physical strength for long-time riding, so the average speed will also be pulled down.
